Humane Society Silicon Valley Launches ‘Home for the Holidays’ Program to Boost Pet Adoptions

The Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) has unveiled its annual ‘Home for the Holidays’ program, a series of initiatives designed to increase pet adoptions and support animal welfare during the festive season. This program, launched by one of the nation’s top animal shelters, aims to continue HSSV’s 95-year legacy of finding loving homes for animals in the Silicon Valley area.

The cornerstone of the program is the ‘Home for the Holidays Adoption Promotion,’ which begins on November 29. This initiative offers a discounted adoption fee of $50 for select dogs and cats featured on HSSV’s Shelter Spotlight page. This significant reduction in adoption fees is expected to encourage more families to consider pet adoption during the holiday season.

In addition to the adoption promotion, HSSV is organizing several events to engage the community and raise awareness about animal welfare. From November 29 through January 5, the organization will host a ‘Giving Tree’ at their Detkin/Oates Center in Milpitas. Visitors can select tags from the trees located in the Adoption Lobby and Community Services areas, providing an opportunity to donate and support adoptable animals directly.

The program also includes two special events that combine holiday cheer with animal welfare. On December 1, HSSV will participate in ‘Paws & Claus’ at Enchant, held at PayPal Park in San Jose. This dog-friendly evening allows pet owners to explore a festive maze with their furry companions while supporting HSSV’s initiatives. The organization will be collecting donations for its Pet Pantry program, which is on track to serve more than 2 million pet meals this year.

Another highlight is the ‘Santa Paws’ event at Santana Row on December 8. For a minimum donation of $10, pet owners can have their animals photographed with Santa. This event also features prize opportunities and provides information about HSSV’s programs and ways to support the organization.

Recognizing the importance of pet behavior during the busy holiday season, HSSV is offering a ‘Holiday Manners’ intensive online class starting December 2. This three-week course aims to prepare dogs for the challenges of the holiday season, focusing on essential commands like ‘Leave it,’ ‘Drop it,’ and ‘Come when called,’ as well as techniques to prevent jumping on visitors.

The ‘Home for the Holidays’ program reflects HSSV’s commitment to its mission of saving lives, keeping families together, and creating a better future for pets and their owners. As an independent, privately funded non-profit organization, HSSV relies on community support to continue its work. The organization has helped over half a million animals find homes in its 95-year history and offers a wide range of services beyond adoption, including affordable veterinary care and a pet pantry for owners in need.

This comprehensive holiday program demonstrates HSSV’s innovative approach to animal welfare, combining adoption incentives, community events, and educational opportunities. By engaging the public through these various channels, HSSV aims to increase pet adoptions, raise awareness about responsible pet ownership, and strengthen the bond between animals and their human companions during the holiday season and beyond.
