Plastics Pipe Institute Seeks Director of Sustainability & Advocacy to Enhance Industry Mission

The Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI), North America’s leading trade association for the plastic pipe industry, has announced its search for a Director of Sustainability & Advocacy. This new position is set to play a crucial role in furthering the organization’s mission to promote the advancement, acceptance, and use of sustainable and resilient plastic pipe systems.

David M. Fink, PPI president, emphasized the significance of this new role, stating, ‘The addition of the Director of Sustainability & Advocacy marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to build a consensus for and advance the use of plastic pipe systems.’ Fink highlighted that the position will focus on sustainability, resiliency, and government advocacy, which are integral to driving positive change and supporting the PPI’s mission to create better infrastructure systems for the future.

The Director of Sustainability & Advocacy will report directly to the PPI President and will be responsible for leading the PPI Sustainability Committee. Key duties include developing and refining messaging that emphasizes the sustainability and resilience of plastic pipes, managing PPI webpages dedicated to these topics, and creating informative case studies, promotional materials, and social media content. These efforts aim to highlight the benefits of plastic pipes and align with PPI’s overall goals.

In addition to sustainability initiatives, the new Director will play a vital role in PPI’s government advocacy efforts. This aspect of the job involves assisting with government policies, directing the association’s lobbying activities, and representing PPI and its members on Capitol Hill. The Director will also oversee the PPI Umbrella Government Advocacy Committee, maintain a current list of legislative issues, and collaborate with lobbyists and association partners to develop key legislative proposals.

The position offers flexibility, with the option to work remotely or at the company’s Dallas-area headquarters. This flexibility may attract a wider pool of qualified candidates from across the country.

Candidates for this position are required to have an accredited four-year degree in engineering, public relations, political science, governmental affairs, marketing, or communications. The ideal candidate should have three to five years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, digital public relations experience, and familiarity with Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Prior experience in advocacy is also preferred.

This new role at PPI reflects the growing importance of sustainability and advocacy in the plastic pipe industry. As infrastructure development continues to be a critical issue worldwide, the emphasis on sustainable and resilient materials becomes increasingly significant. The plastic pipe industry, through organizations like PPI, is positioning itself to address these concerns and promote the benefits of its products in the face of environmental and regulatory challenges.

The creation of this position also signals a proactive approach by the industry to engage with policymakers and shape legislation that affects the use of plastic pipes in various applications. By focusing on both sustainability and advocacy, PPI aims to ensure that the benefits of plastic pipe systems are well-understood and considered in future infrastructure projects and policies.
