Seven professional women football players from the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC) have been selected as ambassadors to promote heart health awareness and CPR education, addressing critical health disparities for women nationwide.
According to the American Heart Association’s 2025 Heart Disease & Stroke Statistical Update, cardiovascular disease remains the most significant health threat for women, with less than half of women aware that it is their leading cause of death. Additionally, women are less likely to receive bystander CPR in public settings compared to men.
WNFC Commissioner Janice Masters emphasized the league’s commitment to community health, stating that the player ambassadors represent the organization’s dedication to making meaningful impacts beyond the football field. The selected ambassadors include players from teams across the country, such as Lawanda Pearson from the Chicago Winds and Breanne Ward from the Seattle Majestics.
The partnership demonstrates a comprehensive approach to women’s health, with the WNFC already requiring all nearly 200 league coaches to be certified in CPR, AED, and first aid. This proactive stance underscores the league’s commitment to player safety and broader community health initiatives.
American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown highlighted the organization’s ongoing mission to empower women to prioritize their health through the Go Red for Women movement, which has been addressing cardiovascular disease awareness since 2004.
By leveraging these athlete ambassadors, the collaboration aims to amplify public service announcements, create engaging social media content, and support local community education events focused on heart health and CPR training.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the American Heart Association to provide women with critical health information and encourage proactive healthcare engagement.
