Chlorine Institute Honors Industry Leaders for Safety and Service

The Chlorine Institute (CI) has awarded two prestigious honors to recognize outstanding leadership and service within the chlor-alkali industry. Manuel ‘Manny’ Correia of Kuehne Chemical Company received the Peter M. Mayo Award, while John Christie of ERCO Worldwide was named an Honorary Member at the organization’s 2025 Annual Meeting in Atlanta.

The Peter M. Mayo Award, established in 2005, is one of the highest honors bestowed by the Chlorine Institute. It recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service to the chlor-alkali industry. Correia, with over 20 years of experience, has been instrumental in advancing safety and emergency preparedness initiatives.

Throughout his career, Correia has served on the Emergency Preparedness and Product Stewardship Issue Teams and has been a key instructor for annual emergency response team training at the Mississippi State Fire Academy since 2007. His commitment extends beyond technical expertise, inspiring colleagues through his dedication to safety and excellence.

John Christie’s Honorary Membership is equally significant, representing one of only 15 such designations in the Institute’s 101-year history. With a 43-year career at ERCO Worldwide, Christie has made substantial contributions to the Chlorine Institute, serving in leadership roles including vice chair and chair of the CI Board.

CI Board Chair John Eskew praised Correia’s award, highlighting how the recipient embodies the organization’s core values of Safety, Member Synergy, Respect, Diversity, and Integrity. Christie’s recognition underscores his pivotal role in advancing industry safety and operational standards.

These awards demonstrate the chlor-alkali industry’s ongoing commitment to professional excellence, safety, and continuous improvement. By recognizing individuals who go above and beyond in their professional roles, the Chlorine Institute reinforces the critical importance of leadership and dedication in industrial safety and operations.
