The initiative aims to address critical cardiac emergency response capabilities, targeting a significant health challenge where nearly 9 out of 10 people experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrests do not receive immediate CPR. Following Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest during a 2023 NFL game, the Teppers quickly supported CPR education by providing Heartsaver® CPR AED courses to all Tepper Sports & Entertainment staff and players, marking the first NFL team to offer comprehensive cardio emergency response training with the American Heart Association.
Recent survey data indicates growing public readiness, with the percentage of adults confident in performing CPR increasing from 30% to 35% between 2021 and 2023. The American Heart Association’s goal is to double sudden cardiac arrest survival rates by 2030.
Nicole Tepper emphasized the foundation’s commitment to cardiovascular health education, noting their pride in expanding training services throughout Mecklenburg County.
