NASA LiftOff Summer Institute Selects Two Colorado SKIES Academy Educators

Two educators from Colorado SKIES Academy have been selected for the NASA LiftOff Summer Institute 2025, a nationally recognized professional development program that promises to transform their approach to science and technology education.

Mary Gispan and Craig Kemper will participate in the week-long program from June 23–27, 2025, in Houston, Texas. The institute, hosted by NASA’s Texas Space Grant Consortium and the Center for Space Research at The University of Texas at Austin, offers educators an immersive experience in space exploration and innovation.

During the program, Gispan and Kemper will engage directly with NASA scientists and engineers, tour advanced facilities, and explore hands-on STEM activities. The Colorado Space Grant Consortium is supporting their participation by covering accommodations, meals, local transportation, and tour expenses.

Campus Director Meredith Motley expressed pride in the teachers’ selection, highlighting their commitment to advancing STEM education. The experience is expected to bring valuable real-world aerospace insights back to the Colorado SKIES Academy learning community.

As part of the #NASABound educators program, Gispan and Kemper join a select group of teachers working to inspire future generations of scientists and engineers through authentic space exploration connections.
