DFW Car and Toy Museum Draws Over 600 Visitors on First Public Day

The DFW Car and Toy Museum, founded by collector Ron Sturgeon, opened its new location to enthusiastic crowds, attracting more than 600 guests on its inaugural day. The museum, previously situated in Haltom City, has relocated to a spacious 150,000-square-foot facility at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, offering visitors a comprehensive display of automotive and toy history.

Sturgeon, who began collecting toys in the 1980s and expanded into automobile collection through his auto salvage business, has curated an impressive collection featuring over 200 cars and 3,000 toys. The new museum location, strategically positioned near Interstate 35 with prominent signage, represents a significant upgrade from the previous venue.

The museum underwent extensive renovations to prepare for its opening, with Sturgeon noting that the team refreshed nearly every aspect of the building. Improvements included painting, tiling, and removing outdated features like shag carpeting to create a modern and welcoming environment.

Visitors can explore a diverse collection that includes more than 35 Volkswagens, reflecting Sturgeon’s early automotive work. The museum offers free admission and parking, making it an accessible destination for automotive and toy enthusiasts of all ages.

The museum’s upcoming events include welcoming the Antique Toy Collectors of America for their annual convention on May 5, 2025, and hosting a cars and coffee event on April 12, which is expected to draw an even larger crowd.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the museum provides additional services such as climate-controlled car storage and event facilities. The venue is also dog-friendly and encourages visitors to take photographs, making it an interactive and engaging experience for automotive and toy collectors.
