Comcast Expands Fiber Broadband Network to Rural Elmira, California

Comcast is set to transform internet connectivity in the rural community of Elmira, California, through a comprehensive fiber broadband network expansion project. The initiative, supported by a Solano County grant from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and private Comcast funding, represents a critical step in addressing digital infrastructure gaps in rural areas.

State Senator Christopher Cabaldon emphasized the project’s significance, stating that reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity for economic participation, online learning, and telehealth services. Solano County Supervisor Mitch Mashburn also highlighted the project’s potential to break down barriers and create sustainable futures for rural communities.

The expansion will provide Xfinity and Comcast Business services to previously unserved homes and businesses, offering multi-gigabit internet speeds with 99.9 percent reliability. Residents will gain access to a suite of services including internet, video, mobile, voice, and home security options.

As part of its community commitment, Comcast has also supported local initiatives, including a $5,000 contribution to the ‘Play 4 All’ park in nearby Vacaville, which provides accessible playground equipment for children with disabilities.

The project is part of Comcast’s broader strategy to address digital equity, with the company having invested over $4 billion in California’s technology and infrastructure over the past three years. Through programs like Internet Essentials, Comcast has connected more than 2.2 million Californians to affordable internet access since 2011.

David Tashjian, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast California, described the internet as a bridge connecting dreams to reality, emphasizing the transformative potential of reliable broadband connectivity for families, businesses, and seniors.

The network expansion will integrate Elmira into Comcast’s extensive infrastructure, joining the 64 million homes and businesses nationwide that rely on their network. This includes critical community organizations such as hospitals, schools, transportation systems, and first responders.
