Dubai to Host 9th Knowledge Summit Focusing on Future Skills and AI Economy

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have announced the 9th edition of the Knowledge Summit, scheduled for November 18-19, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Center. Under the theme ‘Future Skills and AI Economy,’ the summit aims to address the challenges and opportunities in developing a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of the MBRF, emphasized the summit’s role in establishing Dubai as a global innovation hub, stating, ‘The Knowledge Summit… has been successful in establishing Dubai as a global hub of innovation and knowledge from which wide-ranging interactive forums are launched to disseminate knowledge, experiences, and best practices to help societies transition to knowledge-based economies.’

A key highlight of the summit will be the introduction of the ‘Global Knowledge Index 2024,’ a comprehensive tool designed to guide future strategies for sustainable development. The index covers various knowledge fields, including education, R&D, innovation, technology, and knowledge-based economy, providing valuable insights for policymakers and national vision developers.

In a significant development, the summit will host the 3rd UNESCO World OER Congress, marking its first occurrence in the Arab World. This congress, organized by UNESCO, is expected to draw approximately 500 ministers, senior officials, and decision-makers from crucial sectors such as education, digital services, and communications.

The event will also feature the presentation of the ‘Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award,’ recognizing outstanding contributions to knowledge dissemination and inspiring creative individuals in the field. Additionally, Coursera, the renowned online learning platform, will conduct panel discussions on future skills and AI, further enriching the summit’s content.

This year’s summit boasts an expanded agenda, featuring over 747 interactive sessions, workshops, and knowledge events. The program will involve the participation of selected thinkers, creators, and global personalities from various fields, including artificial intelligence, technology, economy, education, environment, and health. Key themes will include promoting sustainable economic growth, workforce skills and future jobs, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and emerging technologies such as data analysis, machine learning, programming, and AI.

The upcoming edition is set to surpass previous records, with 1765 speakers from among the world’s best innovative thinkers, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers, and an expected attendance of over 81,000 participants. These numbers are anticipated to increase significantly, reflecting the growing importance and influence of the Knowledge Summit in shaping global discourse on knowledge and innovation.

As the world continues to grapple with rapid technological advancements and changing economic landscapes, the Knowledge Summit serves as a crucial platform for international dialogue and collaboration. By focusing on future skills and the AI economy, the event addresses pressing global challenges and opportunities, potentially influencing policy decisions and industry trends worldwide.

The summit’s emphasis on sustainable knowledge-based economies aligns with global efforts to adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and prepare workforces for future challenges. As such, the outcomes and discussions from this event could have far-reaching implications for educational systems, workforce development strategies, and economic policies across the globe.
